As created by Liesl Silverstone BACP
Fellow
This wonderful creative course
brings the Person-Centred approach originated by Carl Rogers to the therapeutic
use of art.
The largest element of the course
is experiential and consequently is rich in spontaneous knowing, messages from
the unconscious, brought to consciousness through working with images in art
form.
Liesl writes in
her book "I brought the person-centred mode of facilitating to the world of
art therapy - allowing the client to know what the picture means. No
interpretations. No guess work. No me knowing best. The evidence was
astonishing, encouraging."
The course is offered to anyone
who believes that working with art can be helpful, therapeutic and a creative
resource in their work setting. Course groups may include people working in
educational, therapeutic, social work, youth and medical settings.
Previous art training is not required.
Course
content: The course contains three main elements - theory,
self-awareness and application.
Entry
requirements: The student must be engaged in a relevant work setting
where he/she can apply P.C.A.T. and produce evidence of client art work, for
incorporation into a personal portfolio.
Time: Monday afternoons 1.30pm - 4.30 pm, September -
June, 34 weeks plus three Saturdays (one per term).
