There are no formal educational entry
requirements for this course, apart from a desire to learn. The course consists
of the following modules:
- Anatomy and
Physiology
- Reflexology
Theory
- Reflexology
Practice
- Integrated
Biology - the study of common illnesses
- Practice
Management - which includes business studies
The Anatomy and Physiology module will
give the student basic understanding of anatomical structure and body
systems.
The Integrated Biology module will look
at basic pathology. The understanding of common diseases that the reflexologist
may come into contact with.
The Reflexology Theory and Practice
module will give the student an understanding of the theoretical approaches of
reflexology, the history of reflexology and the skill required to be able to
give a reflexology treatment. This module includes client case study
techniques, contra-indications and the holistic approach to
treatment.
The practice management module will
include business management and business set-up requirements, including legal
requirements and finance.
The Course is held at The Hythe
Community Centre in Colchester, which is a new modern, purpose-built
premises. Facilities include a large course seminar room, and is fully equipped
with treatment couches including all the necessary teaching aids. The Centre
incorporates a well-equipped kitchen for shared group lunches, where tea and
coffee facilities are provided for the students. There is also on-site free car
parking.
Format: The course is held over 18 days, which
includes a First Aid Certificate Day, and is held over 10 months (7 hours per
day) at weekends. The total course contact hours are 118 hours. The Course runs
from November through to July each year (approximetely one weekend per month)
with a monthly payment option, if required. Course recognition and qualification: The course
is accredited by the Association of Reflexologists. Upon satisfactory
completion of all aspects of the course, students will receive a Certificate
from ABC(Awarding Body Consortium), the verifying and awarding body. This
brings the course in line with the government's NQF (National Qualifications
Framework), and the certificate is equivalent to a level 3 Vocational
Related Qualification.
